Chinese New year also knows as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival is the most important festival celebrated in Singapore. The festival begins on the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. The festival is celebrated very prominently in China Town where the streets are filled with red lanterns, traditional Chinese dragon and lion dance and street shops. The whole of Singapore turns into a sprawling bust of events and activities during the festival. The other main places to visit besides China Town are Marina Bay and Esplanade Waterfront Promenade where River Hongbao is celebrated, Pit Building near Marinas Waterfront where Chingay Parade (street and float parade) is held.

Note: 2013 Chinese New Year will be held on Feb 10.
